Statement following the working visit to Almaty and Almaty region

September 21, 2017

Summarizing the working trip, Nursultan Nazarbayev spoke about the situation in Almaty and Almaty region.

- I would like to note that the akimat of Almaty city together with the public is carrying out fruitful activities aimed at systemic improvement of the infrastructure, creation of favourable conditions for comfortable living of residents. The complex reconstruction of Panfilov and Zhibek Zholy Streets has already been carried out, within the framework of which there are convenient walking areas for pedestrians now. It is also necessary to continue work on gardening the city and ensure the full functioning of the irrigation system. There are two new districts in the city - Alatau and Nauryzbay, where all the necessary conditions for doing business have been created. This is where the "points of growth" of entrepreneurial activity are at present.

In general, Almaty was formed as the largest economic centre and has become a modern Kazakhstan’s megapolis of world level. During the years of independence, the city's economy indicators grew rapidly and reached high values. According to the data provided to me, today the economy of Almaty is twice as large as Georgia's GDP and almost five times that of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. This is an indicator of the successful development of not only the city, but the country. Now Almaty is a donor of the national budget and demonstrates the best indicators of small and medium business across the country, the President of Kazakhstan said.

In addition, the Head of State noted that a lot of work was being done in Almaty region. The region’s socio-economic development is carried out at a faster pace, especially in construction, transport and transit and agriculture.

In conclusion, the Head of State wished the city of Almaty and Almaty region prosperity and successful development.
