Meeting on Karaganda region’s socio-economic development

Having familiarized with the activities of the region’s ethno-cultural associations, the President of Kazakhstan met with the region’s public.

The Head of State particularly noted the positive dynamics of the economic indicators of the region's growth.

- Over the past five years, 1.7 million square meters of housing have been commissioned. According to the rates of housing construction, the region ranks fourth in the country, Nursultan Nazarbayev pointed out.

The President of Kazakhstan has emphasized that Karaganda region is the country’s most urbanized region, and noted the importance of developing social infrastructure in all of its settlements.

The Head of State paid special attention to the issues of further implementing the country's strategic development programs aimed at using its transit and transport potential and enhancing the social welfare of the people.

Having heard the report of Karaganda region’s akim and having talked with the public, Nursultan Nazarbayev pointed to the need to address a number of key tasks to ensure the region’s further economic growth.

- There is a special economic zone in the region. For today there are 15 participants registered, from which only 6 - operating enterprises. I instruct the akimat to work out effective measures to activate the SEZ potential. It is necessary to involve large "anchor investors" in the construction, chemical and medical industries, as well as in metalworking, the President of Kazakhstan said.

At the same time, the Head of State reminded of the social responsibility of enterprises for creating and improving the living conditions.

Nursultan Nazarbayev also commissioned the production of the most sought-after imported goods and services.

- At 4 large enterprises, it is planned to introduce the elements of Industry 4.0, and 2 enterprises are defined as "model digital factories". Robotization, artificial intelligence, industrial Internet will increase productivity and competitiveness of products. Here, work should be conducted on an ongoing basis, the President of Kazakhstan stressed.

At the same time, Nursultan Nazarbayev instructed to intensify work on digitalization of public services, develop a long-term strategy for developing the city of Karaganda and a roadmap for its execution.

Noting the important role of business in the country's economy, the President instructed to develop a Business Development Card in Karaganda region and actively involve the population in entrepreneurship as part of the Program for Support of Productive Employment and Mass Entrepreneurship and the Roadmap of Business 2020.

During the meeting, it was also tasked to go through the new projects in the format of public-private partnership.

The President of Kazakhstan separately focused on executing Five Social Initiatives Program  and authorized to achieve their further implementation at the proper level. Thus, Nursultan Nazarbayev dwelled on plans to address the problems of quality higher education, public health, housing construction and development of the region’s tourist potential.

In addition, the Head of State directed to the need of providing the rural population with quality drinkable water.

Also during the meeting, special attention was paid to the issues of heat supply, ensuring environmental safety in the region and the introduction of green technologies.

- About 600 thousand tons of harmful substances are emitted into the atmosphere per year. This is a quarter of all emissions in the country. I instruct the akimat together with the Cabinet to take comprehensive measures to improve the environmental situation, the President of Kazakhstan said.

In conclusion, Nursultan Nazarbayev focused on the country's achievements in strengthening the unity of the nation and stressed the special importance of implementing state programs to ensure the region’s further development.
