Meeting with Mayor of Almaty region Amandyk Battalov

During the meeting Nursultan Nazarbayev noted it is important to further stabilize the economy of the region, implement the government programmes, as well as to increase employment and anti-crisis measures in order to improve the welfare of the population.

He also instructed the mayor to continue the execution of tasks aimed at further development of investment attractiveness of the region and strengthen the support of small and medium-sized businesses.

Amandyk Battalov, in turn, informed Nursultan Nazarbayev on key socio-economic achievements of the region and told about the plans for the upcoming period.

He said a special plan was drawn up, covering sixteen fields of activity, which became the main policy document for the development of the region.

“In accordance with your instructions, we have worked out a clear policy line in order to attract investment into the economy, create new jobs and ensure full employment. In addition, work is well underway on the development of agricultural sector and small and medium-sized businesses. In general, this year the region’s economy has been dynamically developing in all respects. In particular, there has been a significant rise in industry, agriculture, investments compared to the same period last year,” he said.

Following the meeting the Head of State charged the mayor with a number of specific tasks.

Following the implementation of the Development Plan of Almaty region, its economy has seen some growth this year. Budget revenues have increased by 102 percent, while the volume of subsidies has decreased by 15 percent.

In order to resolve land issues a comprehensive road map has been developed. In four pilot areas the reconstruction of irrigation networks has started.

In accordance with the programme of development of small and medium-sized businesses, 360 companies received financial support, more than 100 billion tenge of investment has been attracted. In order to reduce disparities in the development of various areas of the region, 11 industrial sites have been created in order to form new economic points of growth.

In education, the appropriate works are carried out to eliminate the problem of schools in a state of disrepair. This year, 83 kindergartens are expected to open their doors through private investment, which will help to ensure 77% of children have access to preschool education.
