Press briefing following the working trip to South Kazakhstan region

March 27, 2015

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the government pays great attention to the development of South Kazakhstan region, the largest in terms of population.

“We are making every effort to expand the population of Shymkent up to one million people. The city is growing; a new administrative centre is being built. We are improving the infrastructure of the region. Gas pipelines, motorways and railway lines pass through the territory of South Kazakhstan. This promotes the development of businesses and improves wellbeing of the population,” he said.

The President also stressed the development of agricultural complex is among the region’s top priority issues.

“The region has all necessary conditions to become a real “factory” for the production of vegetables and fruits. The government allocates substantial funds and has already obtained a high payoff. We are introducing modern technologies, thus increasing the production rate. Over the last five years, the volume of agricultural output has increased by 2.5 times. As a consequence, a significant portion of production is exported abroad. South Kazakhstan is making good progress in animal husbandry as well. We will continue working in the same direction,” he maintained.

As noted by Nursultan Nazarbayev, this year the country is commemorating significant historic anniversaries that should promote deeper mutual understanding and strengthen unity and tolerance among people.

In conclusion, the Head of State wished the residents of South Kazakhstan success and prosperity.
