At the beginning of the meeting, Adilbek Dzhaksybekov emphasized the importance of the fruitful cooperation maintained between Kazakhstan and the OSCE over the last decade in the context of developing civil society and establishing democratic processes.
The main objective of Christian Strohal’s visit to our country is submission of the final report of the ODIHR/OSCE Mission on the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan, which were held on 18 August, 2007, and also consideration of cooperation issues.
As the Director of the OSCE’s ODIHR said during the meeting, this document reflects the significant progress made by Kazakhstan in holding fair, transparent and justice elections.
Particularly, the OSCE’s ODIHR Mission witnessed many positive aspects of the election process, and emphasizes that the voting was held in a stable environment and international watchdogs positively estimated the elections’ procedures observed at various election precincts.
The mission’s observers positively appreciate efforts on ensuring norms of election legislation, on training participants of the election process, increasing its transparency, and offering equal opportunities to all participating parties.
Concerning the recent election campaign on elections to the Parliament, Christian Strohal put an emphasis on the openness and transparency of the election campaign, the wide access of all political parties to the mass media, simplified registration procedures and a number of other important aspects.
