Participation in the session of the CSTO Collective Security Council

Serzh Sargsyan, the President of Armenia, Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, Sooronbay Jeenbekov, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, Emomali Rahmon, the President of Tajikistan, have attended the meeting as well.

The leaders summed up the results of the Organization's activities for the past period and shaped the plan for the near-term perspective, discussed the current state of affairs in the world and in the CSTO responsibility area.

The participants noted the significance and effectiveness of the Astana negotiating platform in the context of settling the crisis in Syria.

During the meeting, there was a constructive exchange of views on topical issues on the international agenda, the measures were identified to strengthen regional security concerning the situation on the Korean peninsula, in Syria and Afghanistan, and the measures have been identified to strengthen information security.

The President of Kazakhstan thanked the Belarusian side for the successful leadership in the CSTO in the past period.

Nursultan Nazarbayev presented the priorities of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the Collective Security Treaty Organization for the coming year in five areas, among which are the development of collaborative tools of the CSTO member states’ interaction in the military sphere, organizing practical military-technical cooperation, CSTO participation in forming the international global system for countering terrorism, CSTO members’ joint measures against threats of cyber security, and facilitating the measures to counter drug trafficking.

In conclusion, the Head of State suggested holding a regular session of the CSTO Collective Security Council in the second half of 2018 in Astana.

The session of the CSTO Collective Security Council resulted in adopting the following:

- Jubilee Declaration of the Collective Security Treaty Organization;

- Joint statement on the situation in Syria;

- Joint statement on supporting the mediation efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement;

- Statement on joint measures to strengthen the defense potential of CSTO member states;

- Decision on reforming the CSTO Secretariat and Joint Staff;

- Documents on procedural matters.

In addition, the meeting approved the Action Plan on implementing the Collective Security Strategy until 2025, and there was a signing of the Agreement on Information Security aimed at strengthening cooperation on countering cyber threats and challenges in the information sphere.
