Participation in the ceremony of cancellation of customs control on the Kazakh-Kyrgyz state border

August 12, 2015

The customs control on the Kazakh-Kyrgyz state border has been cancelled in compliance with the Treaty on the Kyrgyz Republic’s Accession to the Eurasian Economic Union.

In his speech, Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed the importance of Kyrgyzstan’s integration into the Union, which fully meets the interests of Kazakhstan and will further expand economic cooperation between the two countries.

The opening of the customs border between our states is a significant event, which will open up new business opportunities for our countries, galvanizing bilateral trade. Fulfilling the conditions prescribed by the agreements reached within the framework of the EAEU, we will move forward in building a single economic space and I am sure we will soon see a real positive result,” he said.

The President noted that despite the difficult situation in the global markets, our countries are successfully developing trade and economic cooperation. As of today Kazakhstan has invested more than US$ 1.5 billion in the development of different sectors of Kyrgyzstan.

As mentioned by the Head of State, there is significant potential for further enhancement of bilateral trade. In particular, cooperation will be strengthened in such areas as power energy, transportation, communications, agriculture, and tourism, which has a multiplier effect on many areas.

The present crisis in foreign markets that is inevitably affecting our country causes a minor decrease in trade turnover. But in the long term period the activities within the Union will promote economic growth and improve the well-being of our people,” he said.

In conclusion, Nursultan Nazarbayev wished the people of Kyrgyzstan sustainable development and peace.

Almazbek Atambayev, in turn, expressed his confidence that the joint work within the framework of the EAEU will further strengthen bilateral relations, and noted there shouldn’t be any boundaries between the two brotherly nations in the future.

Today is an important day for the residents of Issyk-Kul region, as Nursultan Nazarbayev has supported the idea of building a road from Almaty that would be twice as short,” he added.
