President Nursultan Nazarbayev Lays a Foundation Stone to the Construction Site of a New Mosque in Alatau Foothills in the Almaty Region

The President acquired a familiarity with the plan of the new mosque, which will be completed in May 2009. The project costs some 40 million dollars and is sponsored by volunteers.


The construction site occupies 16 hectares. The object will have 4 stories. In addition to main rooms, its building will combine a madrasah with library, residency of the Spiritual Directorate of Kazakhstan’s Muslims, and a hotel.


The mosque will serve 20 thousand people.


On the same day, the President received Askar Kulibayev, the president of the National Company “Silk Road Kazakhstan” and chairman of the Peace and Accord Fund of Kazakhstan.
