Nursultan Nazarbayev visited Semipalatinsk’s State Medical Academy. The President attended television consultation with the reanimation department of a provincial hospital and television bridge with the University of Hiroshima, Japan.
The President also met with graduates of medical and pedagogical higher education institutes of the city, which wished to be assigned to work in the rural area.
“I am pleased that you have responded to my call and will work in the rural area. The village is the cradle of our nation, and now needs you, your help and knowledge. You will never forget the years spent there,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said during an informal conversation with graduates.
At the exit from the medical academy, the Head of State was greeted by workers of regional public health care organizations, students, teachers, social representatives.
On the same day, the President laid flowers to Abay’s monument and viewed the museum of fine arts named after the Nevsorovs family, to which he presented a collection of canvases of kazakhstani masters.
At the end of the trip, the President met with the region’s activists and the city’s community representatives in the building of the musical dramatic theater named after Abay.
Kazakhstan’s leader said in his speech that the country has an ambitious task on joining the group of the 50 most competitive countries in the world. It would be impossible without sustainable development in regions. East Kazakhstan has all necessary preconditions to become one of the centers of economic growth and to be a leader in building a new innovative and high technological economy. Eighteen breakthrough projects costing 3.7 billion dollars are being implemented in the region already. Semipalatinsk plays an important role in the economic development of the region, which is the center of the social entrepreneurial corporation Ertis.
“Over the last five months, economic growth was at 30 percents in the East Kazakhstan region, and at 13 percents in the city of Semipalatinsk. This is an indicator of the growth of the nation prosperity. There is a complex development in Kazakhstan. I am pleased with this fact,” Nursultan Nazarbayev emphasized.
The President also emphasized the crucial significance of recent constitutional amendments, which change radically Kazakhstan’s political system. He has expressed his confidence that these amendments would give a new impulse to the development of political system and would serve as another step toward democracy.
Concluding the meeting, the President said that it would be possible to rename Semipalatinsk for Semei, because current name associates with the nuclear test site in the region.
