Meeting with President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani

November 20, 2015

The two leaders discussed issues of common interests, including in trade and economy, agriculture and culture. They also exchanged views on the most topical issues of international agenda and regional security.

Nursultan Nazarbayev welcomed the first official visit of Ashraf Ghani to Kazakhstan made at his invitation.

The Central Asian region and Afghanistan share common historical and cultural values. I am well aware of everything that happens in your country. In the past, we actively interacted with the former President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai. Today Kazakhstan is providing comprehensive support to the process of stabilization in Afghanistan. We would like your country to prosper and our relationships to be even more close” he said.

Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that Kazakhstan very well understands the difficulties and risks Afghanistan is facing.

In recent years, we have been witnessing the process of stabilization in Afghanistan. Your country strives to unite all people and establish a government of national unity. This is very important and we fully support these plans,” he added.

Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, in turn, highlighted the success achieved by Kazakhstan over the years of independence.

After you launched the Kazakhstan-2030 Strategy, few people believed it would be a success. However, under your leadership and due to the prompt comprehensive measures, you not only managed to achieve the appropriate tasks, but even to overfulfil them. The way Kazakhstan has changed is a striking example for the entire region. In this regard, I would like to remind you the words that you said in 1997: “Yesterday is rarely too early, but tomorrow is frequently too late,” he said.
