Visit to Astana’s lyceum school 85

The Head of State saw the training rooms and got acquainted with the material and technical base, and also talked with the schoolchildren of the new lyceum school 85, built with the support of the Development Fund of the State of Qatar.

Speaking to reporters, Nursultan Nazarbayev congratulated all schoolchildren, teachers and parents on the Knowledge Day, and emphasized the symbolism of holding a solemn event within the walls of the new educational institution that opened in the capital city.

- Today 181 schools are being built throughout the country. 23 schools have already been built and take their first schoolchildren. In Kazakhstan, more than 7,000 schools have opened their doors for 3 million schoolchildren, over 350,000 of them have crossed the school threshold for the first time, the President of Kazakhstan said.

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that in the high-tech world of the XXI century knowledge is the key to innovation and the main resource for Kazakhstan’s progress and pointed out that the government gives the most serious attention to the education sector.

Noting the need to move to the updated content of secondary education aimed at functional literacy, the President of Kazakhstan focused on the fact that in modern conditions, scholchildren should be able to apply the knowledge and skills gained in practice. This determines the high level of qualification and professionalism of a teacher.

- The government carries out systemic measures for training the pedagogical personnel, improving wages in the sphere of education. Since this school year, the salaries of teachers who have successfully passed certification on the new system will increase by 30-50 percent, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

The Head of State stressed that the modern technological era and the third modernization of Kazakhstan define new tasks for creating quality knowledge, development of analytical and creative abilities, and noted that schoolchildren should fully master information technologies and foreign languages.

The educational institution, designed for 1200 student places, has got  48 classrooms. Teaching in the lyceum school 85 of the natural-mathematical direction will be in the Kazakh and Russian languages, using innovative technologies that are adequate to the state standard of education.
