Washington, D.C., United States
During his working visit to the United States, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the leadership of Boeing, a leading global manufacturer of commercial aircraft, defense and space systems.
The President noted that Kazakhstan’s air carriers — Air Astana, SCAT and Vietjet Qazaqstan — are interested in advancing joint projects that are of strategic importance for the development of the country’s aviation sector.
In this context, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed the agreement reached between Air Astana and Boeing on the supply of aircraft. The first Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft are expected to arrive in Kazakhstan in the second half of the year to enable the launch of direct flights to the United States. In addition, SCAT plans to acquire additional Boeing aircraft and is exploring the establishment of a maintenance and repair center at Shymkent Airport in partnership with the American corporation.
Jeff Shockey, in turn, shared the company’s plans for digital transformation and highly appreciated Kazakhstan’s transit and transport potential. He noted the strong prospects for productive cooperation in the air cargo sector.
The meeting also addressed the training of Kazakh specialists for the aviation industry and the further development of the country’s cargo aircraft fleet.
