Kazakhstan President took part in the Extraordinary Session of the CSTO Collective Security Council

The virtual extraordinary session of the Collective Security Council of the CSTO, convened at Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's initiative in connection with the situation in Kazakhstan.

Along with Kazakhstan’s leader, online summit was attended by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia, President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, President Vladimir Putin of Russia, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration Akylbek Japarov of Kyrgyzstan, as well as the CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev informed his colleagues about the current situation in the country and the measures taken to stabilize it. The Head of State expressed gratitude to the CSTO partners for the assistance provided.

“In fact, this is the first time when the peacekeeping potential of the CSTO was actually used to ensure the security, stability and integrity of one of the member states. Not only the military, but also above all, the moral support of the CSTO partners is essential to us. All the CSTO member states came out with one voice, strongly supporting Kazakhstan’s appeal,” President Tokayev stressed.

The President noted that the CSTO will receive useful experience, “bottlenecks” will be analyzed, and appropriate conclusions and amendments to regulatory documents will be made.

“The CSTO has shown its relevance and effectiveness as a credible military-political organization. This is a really working mechanism for ensuring the stability and security of our states,” the Head of State said.

During the summit, the CSTO leaders exchanged views on the situation in Kazakhstan, expressed support for the actions of Kazakhstan’s leadership, and noted the importance of restoring stability and constitutional order. The CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas reported on the implementation of the joint decisions taken.

The heads of state agreed to stay in constant contact until the completion of the mission of the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces in Kazakhstan.
