During the meeting, G. Abdykalikova has noted that this year marks the 25th anniversary of our country's accession to the OSCE. She stressed that the participation of the OSCE PA leadership in the 62nd Pugwash Conference testifies to the Organization’s increased attention to the issues of nuclear disarmament, in which Kazakhstan holds a leading role.
The Secretary of State stressed that this year is a turning point in the strategic development of Kazakhstan. In January, N.Nazarbayev initiated the redistribution of powers between the branches of power in the form of transferring a number of presidential powers to the Parliament and the Cabinet. After announcing the constitutional reform, the Head of the State delivered his annual Address to the Nation on "Third Modernization of Kazakhstan: Global Competitiveness". The third key initiative of Kazakhstan’s President is the program article titled "Future Outlook: Public Consciousness Improvement."
G.Abdykalikova stressed that thanks to the support of the Head of the State, the National Commission for Women and Family and Demographic Policy has become the effective platform for dialogue between the authorities, civil society and international organizations. She noted that gender policy is regulated by two laws "On State Guarantees of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women" and "On Prevention of Domestic Violence". The Gender Equality Strategy in Kazakhstan for 2006-2016 was successfully implemented, and the Concept of Family and Gender Policy in Kazakhstan until 2030 was approved last year.
The State Secretary noted that Kazakhstan welcomes Christine Muttonen’s initiative to create an ad hoc committee on combating terrorism in the OSCE PA in order to attract more attention of the member countries to this urgent problem.
She has also informed the guests of the international forum "Women for Future Energy" to be held from August 31 to September 1 within the framework of "Astana Expo-2017" exhibition. Opening of the International Centre for Development of Green Technologies and Investment Projects will keep up with the spirit of the exhibition. The Secretary of State expressed her hope that the OSCE could contribute to the Centre’s establishment and development.
