Working visit to Almaty region

Upon arrival in Usharal, Almaty region, the Head of State got acquainted with the new airport’s functioning and the prospects for developing small-scale aviation in the region.

After inspecting the new building of the railway station in the village of Akshi, Alakol district, there was a meeting under the chairmanship of Nursultan Nazarbayev on tourism and development of the  national transport and logistics infrastructure.

During the meeting, the head of the region Amandyk Batalov reported to the President of Kazakhstan about the tourism progress in Almaty region.

- The volume of the regional tourist services provided over the past four years has doubled - from KZT 3.9 billion in 2014 to KZT 8.3 billion in 2017. In 2018, this figure is to increase to KZT 10 billion. In Alakol district, the volume of services in 2017 was KZT 3.5 billion, which is 8 times higher than in 2014, the regional akim said.

Zhenis Kasymbek, Minister for Investments and Development, reported on implementing Nurly Zhol State Program for infrastructure development concerning construction of highways of local and national importance

- In 2017 more than 4 thousand km of highways of national significance were covered with road construction works, 603 km of which have already been open for traffic. In general, we believe that until 2022 all 24,000 km of roads will get a satisfactory condition, the Minister said.

Also during the meeting, Kanat Alpysbaev, President of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy NC JSC, has presented a map of transport accessibility of Alakol resort zone until 2020 and informed the President of Kazakhstan about the progress in actualizing the strategy for the transit traffic development.

Arystanbek Mukhamediuly, Minister of Culture and Sports, reported on implementing the instructions voiced in the Address to Kazakhstan’s Nation on removing all barriers to the development of domestic and outbound tourism, as well as on measures taken by the Ministry to maintain the effect of the post-EXPO.

- The country experienced the economic effect of tourism during the EXPO, when more than 7 million tourists visited Kazakhstan, which is 18% more than in the previous year. The flows of domestic tourism increased by 20% and amounted to about 6 million people, the institution's leader said.

Following the meeting and visits to the tourist cluster facilities, Nursultan Nazarbayev has given a number of specific instructions to the central state and local executive bodies on the country’s further development of tourism.

- Alakol should become the most visited place in Kazakhstan. It is distinguished by an advantageous location, which makes the facility accessible to residents of all regions. The Lake’s uniqueness lies in the healing properties of water containing radon, alkali and other useful elements. In this regard, Alakol is of great importance for our tourism industry, the Head of State concluded.
