President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Receives UK Minister of State for Trade Lord Anas Sarwar

October 7, 2026

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Minister of State for Trade of the United Kingdom Lord Anas Sarwar at the Akorda.

The Head of State underscored that Kazakhstan attaches particular importance to further developing bilateral relations with the United Kingdom.

“Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom are linked by constructive political dialogue and active contacts at various levels. I am convinced that there is significant potential for further expanding our cooperation,” the Head of State said.

The President noted that the United Kingdom is one of Kazakhstan’s leading trade and investment partners. In 2025, bilateral trade increased by 83%, exceeding 1.6 billion US dollars. More than 500 British companies currently operate in Kazakhstan.

“Developing trade and economic ties requires not only new projects and investment, but also people who are able to work confidently in an international environment. That is why I encourage Kazakhstan’s younger generation to be more open to the world, broaden their horizons and learn as many languages as possible, above all English, which today serves as the principal language of international communication,” the Head of State emphasized.

During the meeting, the President conveyed his warmest regards to Prime Minister Andy Burnham and invited him to visit Kazakhstan.

For his part, Lord Sarwar welcomed the steady development of the strategic partnership with Kazakhstan, expressing gratitude to the President for his support for British business projects and for creating a favorable investment climate in the country.

“We are following with great interest Kazakhstan’s dynamic development and highly value the closeness of our approaches to key issues on the international agenda. We are united by our commitment to open and trusted partnership, innovation, mutual confidence and free trade. In our relations with strategic partners, which certainly includes Kazakhstan, we are determined to deliver concrete and practical results that correspond to the high level of our bilateral ties,” Anas Sarwar said.

The sides noted the importance of strengthening humanitarian cooperation, expanding academic exchanges and implementing joint educational initiatives. According to the President, the United Kingdom has traditionally maintained high standards of education and professional training for young specialists.

The meeting also addressed prospects for expanding cooperation in energy, transport and logistics, digitalization and artificial intelligence.
