Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s official visit to the Swiss Confederation kicked off with a meeting with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization.
During the conversation, they discussed topical issues and prospects of cooperation between Kazakhstan and WHO. The Head of State informed about the measures taken by our country to tackle the pandemic, including the development of anti-covid vaccines by Kazakh scientists and the course of mass vaccination of the population.
Warmly recalling previous meetings with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called the WHO as reliable partner of Kazakhstan.
“We highly appreciate your personal contribution to the WHO. Unfortunately, we are living in very difficult times. Another variant is coming out, which is called “Omricon”. Therefore, we must be together on the same line fighting against the COVID-19,” the President said.
The Head of State spoke about Kazakh vaccines QazVac and the new second subunit one QazCoVac-P. This vaccine is included in the list of candidate vaccines in the phase of clinical trials. The President expressed gratitude to the Head of WHO for supporting Kazakhstan’s vaccines.
President Tokayev expressed full support for WHO’s desire to ensure equal and fair access to vaccines, stressing the readiness to provide Kazakh vaccine to all countries in need.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus informed Kassym-Jomart Tokayev about the key areas of the fight against coronavirus, new strains of the virus and possible scenarios for the further development of the pandemic. The WHO Director-General once again stressed the exceptional importance of vaccination in the fight against a deadly virus.
